About this tool

Everything you need to know about ODT to Audiobook

If you wrote your book in LibreOffice Writer or OpenOffice, upload the .odt file as it is and turn it into an audiobook. Chapter splits follow your heading styles, so a title formatted with a Heading paragraph style becomes a chapter and one that is simply bold text does not. That makes the style your document already uses the most important thing to check. Open the Styles sidebar, confirm each chapter title is a heading, and save before you upload.

FAQ

ODT to Audiobook — FAQ

Something not covered here? Contact us · support@vocallab.ai

Which heading styles count as chapters?

Paragraph styles in the Heading family guide the split. Apply them to chapter titles. Body text styled to look like a heading will not be treated as one.

Do I have to export to DOCX or PDF first?

No. The .odt file uploads directly, which avoids layout changes a conversion might introduce.

What happens to footnotes and comments?

Anything left in the document body is part of the text that gets read. Delete comments and move footnotes you do not want spoken before uploading.

My book has a table of contents page. Will it be read aloud?

It can be, since it is text in the file. Remove the generated contents page before you upload.

Can I regenerate one chapter after editing the ODT?

Yes. You can generate by chapter or by line, so you redo only the part that changed instead of the whole book.
