Step-by-step guide

How to Use Breathing Exercise Audio

Start for free — no credit card, no software to install.

  1. Write the cycle as cues

Use short phrases: 'In', 'Hold', 'Out', 'Hold'. Keep each one to a word or two so the pause carries the timing.
  2. Set pause lengths to match the counts

For box breathing add 4 second pauses after each cue. For 4-7-8 use 4, 7 and 8 seconds.
  3. Count your pauses against the 20 limit

Work out how many cycles fit. Start a new request when you reach 20.
  4. Generate and export

Listen through once against a clock. Adjust any pause that runs short and export the MP3.

About this tool

Everything you need to know about Breathing Exercise Audio

Breathing patterns depend on counts. Box breathing is 4-4-4-4. A 4-7-8 cycle is in for 4, hold for 7, out for 8. Spoken counts drift, so this page uses pause tags for the holds instead. Each pause runs up to 10 seconds and a request takes 20, which fits a full 4-7-8 cycle several times over. Longer holds split across two lines.

FAQ

Breathing Exercise Audio — FAQ

How do I script a 4-7-8 cycle?

Write the cue 'Breathe in through your nose' and add a pause of about 4 seconds. Then 'Hold' with a 7 second pause. Then 'Breathe out slowly' with an 8 second pause. That is three pauses per cycle.

How many cycles fit in one request?

A request holds at most 20 pauses. A 4-7-8 cycle uses 3, so six cycles fit. Box breathing uses 4 per cycle, so five cycles fit. Generate more requests and join them in an editor for longer sessions.

What if I need a hold longer than 10 seconds?

End one line with a pause of 10 seconds. Start the next line with a second pause for the remainder. You can also place a pause block between the lines in the project editor.

The spoken cue takes time too. How do I allow for that?

The pause starts after the words finish. If you want a true 4 second inhale and the cue takes 2 seconds to say, set the pause to about 2 seconds, or shorten the cue to a single word.

Can it count aloud for me?

Yes. Write the numbers into the script, such as 'one' and 'two', with 1 second pauses between them. Keep the pauses short so the counts stay even.
