Exporting Your Audiobook

When the writing and generating are done, export turns everything into finished files.

New to the audiobook editor? Start with How to Make an Audiobook — it has a full video walkthrough.

Before you export

Export only includes lines that have already been generated. Anything you wrote but never generated is skipped without stopping the export, so it's worth a quick pass first:

  1. Open each chapter and click Generate Chapter — it only processes lines that are missing or edited, so this is cheap on chapters you've already finished
  2. Check the chapter play button. It stays grey until every non-empty line has current audio, which makes it a reliable completeness check
  3. Then export

Exporting

Click Export project in the top bar. The Export audiobook dialog lets you choose:

Package

  • One file — a single continuous audio file, chapters in order
  • ZIP of chapters — one audio file per chapter, in a ZIP
  • M4B audiobook — an MPEG-4 audiobook with chapters built in

Format and quality — MP3 at 320, 256 or 192 kbps, or WAV for books created in WAV (Pro and above). Delivery quality can be lower than the quality the book was generated at, but never higher.

Chapter markers — embeds a chapter list so players can jump between chapters. Always included in an M4B; support varies by player for other files.

Mastering — normalises the whole book to a target loudness in one pass, so chapters keep their relative levels:

  • None — levels exactly as generated
  • Streaming · -14 LUFS — for Spotify, Apple and YouTube
  • Retail · -19 LUFS — for ACX / Audible submission

Click Export. When the file is ready you can download it, and also Download subtitles (SRT).

What to expect from the file

  • Chapters are in the order shown in the Chapters rail. Reorder there if you need a different sequence.
  • Pause blocks become real silence in the file, at the duration you set.
  • Ungenerated lines are skipped. The dialog tells you how many were skipped — if that number isn't zero and you expected a complete book, go back and generate them.

Downloading a single chapter or line

  • Download chapter in a chapter's menu opens the same dialog for just that chapter (format and mastering, without the packaging choices).
  • Download line in a speaker block's menu saves just that line's audio — useful for a sample, an intro, or one take you want to reuse elsewhere.

Re-exporting

You can export as many times as you like — after fixing a line, adding a chapter, or recasting a voice. There's a short cooldown of a few seconds between exports, so if the button doesn't respond immediately, wait a moment and try again.

Re-exporting does not re-generate anything and does not cost points. It only repackages audio you've already paid for.

Troubleshooting

I can't export anything Nothing in the project has been generated yet. Generate at least one line first.

The export is shorter than expected / a chapter is missing Those lines were never generated, so they were skipped. Open each chapter, run Generate Chapter, and export again. The skipped-line count in the export dialog tells you how many were affected.

I wanted WAV The output format is chosen when you create the book. Books created in MP3 export as MP3; to get WAV, switch the book's Output format to WAV in the editor (Pro and above) — this re-generates every line.

I can't pick a higher bitrate A book can't be exported at a higher quality than it was generated at — re-encoding lossy audio upward only adds file size, not quality.

The export button doesn't do anything There's a few-second cooldown after each export. Wait a moment and click again.
