SRT Captions Overview
SRT (SubRip Subtitle) files contain word-by-word timestamps that sync captions to your audio. VocalLab generates SRT files automatically alongside your audio.
What SRT enables
- Karaoke-style captions — words highlight as they're spoken
- Auto-captions on YouTube and TikTok that are perfectly timed
- Accessibility — captions for deaf/hard-of-hearing viewers
- SEO — YouTube indexes caption text for search
How VocalLab's SRT works
When you generate audio, VocalLab also calculates the exact timestamp for every word. The SRT file maps each word to its precise start and end time in the audio.
SRT vs. other subtitle formats
| Format | Use case |
|---|---|
| SRT | Universal — works on YouTube, TikTok, most video editors |
| VTT | Web video players (HTML5) |
| ASS/SSA | Advanced styling (karaoke effects in video editors) |
VocalLab exports SRT — the most widely supported format.
